GreenHills

This weekend I had gone to GreenHills along with Anurag, Mohit, Rajesh, Neha and Shwetha to do some shopping.  We get  cheap pearls, Phillipines is famous from South Sea Pearls. The pearls are cheaper in Green Hills. There are also many varieties of pearl. Its 10 kms from Makati. Its really different from Makati.

We really had to negotiate the prices, the shopkeeper asked for 1200 for a pearl necklace, we reduced the price to 800.

There is also a Cinema Hall in the GreenHill Shopping Mall.

There is also a good food court, where we get Halal food. As there are many Muslim shop keeper's. First time I am seeing such a mark outside a restaurant Feels good.
Waiting outside for the girls, who are shopping everything,

While leaving it was already 7 pm, In Phillipines there is a line for taxi and standing in a long line is really irritating. So we had a tough time getting a taxi. Finally, 6 of us stuffed inside a taxi.
Overall, the experience was good.

Negotiation skills

Venue: SGV, 3rd floor Time: 9.30 30th November
Case: Water Hyacinth.

We were COB and had to negotiate with Goverment of San Latino for a power project. The core technology and selling point for COB was Water Hyacinth.

 We were  negotiating on
1. Amount of payment for Implementaion of plant.
2. Time period of payment.
3. Transfer of technology.
4. Completion- dead line of project.
5.Profit Sharing

This project was important for both of us. They were adamant that they have maximum 50 million loan for all projects and they can give us only 40 million , for which we disagreed as the cost was coming up to 50 million
They wanted us to operate the plant. We had the advantage of possession of technology. We were assuring them that this project will prove to be a cost effective in the long run.
We broke the negotiations three times for refining our own strategies.

After lots of head-ons negotiation , these were the agreed terms

1.Implementation was agreed for 46 million.
2. 50-50 partnership for operations.
3. Every year price regulation by government for the betterment for everyone.
4. After 10 years, transfer of technology.
5. Delivering on or before deadline.

Learnings:
We need to be flexible with our terms on other's demand. We should show them the big picture.
Both parties are in the table to discuss something and get maximum gain from the meeting. There are no losers and winners in negotiation.

Presentation

Today I had to talk about a cognitive metaphor 'Resurrecting Values of Youth ' in MC class today. I had 5 points to be told. I was trying to memorize the same. just before the speech my heart was beating heavily and I was very anxious. When I went to the floor, I got very conscious and forget what I had to say. I just told an example of metaphor of my company HP, and how values are valued. It didn't even spare the CEO, Mark Hurd .
I become very conscious while giving speech and I forget to see the power point slide. All points are there still I feel awkward to see the slide and repeat.
I never see the notes also while speaking. I should use the notes smartly. Too much to learn.

Learning from Group Activities

Learning from Group Activities

1.For the RLA Level 2 and Level 3 activities (see the next sections), you will again make blog or journal entries based on the following questions:
a. What are my most significant insights about myself based on my participation and feedback given my LT in these activities?
b How did I harness my strengths?  Overcome my weaknesses? To maximize my participation/contribution?

Culture’s Continuum

o   In our LT, we all belong to a mixture of tightly woven and loosely knit cultures.  There is one more person who is from Vietnam, so she also belongs to the loosely knit culture.  Two are from Philippines and 5 from India., I don’t think in our LT or in our section, we value or respect each other based on his/her status and seniority in the LT or section. We value each other and respect each other as an individual. We respect each others’ capabilities and encourage each other to make maximum contribution in the LT or in the section.
YOUR MOUTH, YOUR TIGER
LT
·         The Indian members are louder than the rest when they speak, giving an impression to the others of being dominated upon. They are very competitive.
·         While getting carried away in the discussion members of same nationality, without realising, end up speaking in their native language, giving an impression to the others of being left out of the discussion. The latter group backs off from intervening and thus lose interest in the discussion

CLASS
·         Filipinos, who are soft spoken, think of Indians as being aggressive and fast speakers
·         Except the Filipinos and the Indians, who are well versed in English, the members of other nationality find it difficult to grasp on the discussions being held due to the absence of English usage in their respective nation.
·         Members lose interest when fellow classmates of a different nationality cite examples specific to their culture or national issues. There is a loss of context to the discussion therein. Our esteemed Professors belong to the tightly woven culture.

How do we communicate with each other?

The Learning Team is a blend of loosely knit and tightly woven cultures in terms of giving feedback, using of space, handling conflicts, handling nature, and relating to the divine, the supernatural, the ultimate.

Sharpen your listening skills to both the verbal and nonverbal behavior of people-this is master the unspoken language of culture.

We had meet the other learning team, We had lots of similarities on the readings and discussion. The discussion within LT was very fruitful especially,'What to look for in Groups'?
Real time Application of these learnings has really helped me think about the happenings in the world. What people think about me. They think I am Silent.

It is really complicated to deal with people here, all are different and just running behind grades and importance.I don't get along with people. I don't socialize much as I am allergic to smoke and I don't drink.
When i hear people talk, I see them criticizes others, Which I don't like. I can't change the thinking of others.

I am an introvert and I like to be one, just deal with myself and try to be happy and help others. Get the positive frequency. I believe in learning  from everything. I want to learn to deal with people and talk back smartly.
I have no issues with unspoken language of culture, culture continuum as I am sensitive to others and i don't interfere too much.
Your mouth, your tiger gave me lot of insights of how to communicate well. After coming to AIM, I made sure I speak slow so that non-Indians understand what I say.

I had 5 points to be told. I was trying to memorize the same. just before the speech my heart was beating heavily and I was very anxious. When I went to the floor, I got very conscious and forget what I had to say. Strength through Emotion Intelligence

It measures your abilities in terms of 7 factors that have been identified as critical to what we call emotional intelligence (or, colloquially, "EQ").The AIM-EIM measures one factor pertaining to social competence and that is Collaboration.)
It measures

  Emotional Literacy ( EL )
  Self-confidence ( SEC )
  Self-management ( SM )
  Self-motivation ( SMO )
  Dynamism ( D )

My top 3 measure's strengths are

Emotional Literacy ( EL ) - 83 percentile

My specific strengths from PSI

My specific strengths from PSI

  1. cautious with people
  2. Likes Fact
  3. Personal reactions
  4. Feelings are superior
  5. Makes quick decision
  6. Flexible, adaptable
  7. Gets general impression
learning team
These traits help me with dealing with people, I don't argue with people. I maintain a harmony withing the learning team, I try to contribute to my LT the vast knowledge I have learned reading so many news and articles.
Also from my past work experiences.
I don't go too close to people so much, I keep a boudary. I understand people and don't iritate them.
I also make quick decision what ever can group says. i don't stick to my point.

Class Participation
I have lot of knowledge and facts with me from  past experiences. I can relate things better. As I am an introvert, it sometimes tough to talk out in class if I am not so certain. My thinking and vocal output process becomes out of sync when I am tensed and words don't come in my mouth.
This is the main reason i don't raise my hand much in class. Many of the points I want to say in the class are told by my other class mates. When I have a real point to add, someone else tells it.
The biggest advantage is that I sit in first row, Whatever it is I listen to the professor and try to learn. I also sometimes feel that when I want to do CP, I don't concentrate on the information flow.

Self Studies
Time management is really bad, I study at the last moment. One advantage is that I read fast, which has come by reading many newspaper and reading comprehensions while preparing for GMAT.
I am week in accounting, It is not that  I   don't get concepts write but the professor is scaring us a lot that people fail. I am trying to master it because I like it. I can't concentrate for long. I like videos better than books.

Impromptu

I had to give my first impromptu last month. I was really tensed but after getting some tips and online research, I got confident. Some tips I learnt in due course are

1. never memorize a speech

2. write down main points, so that you know the flow and don't give a blank stare in the middle.

3. Give some real life examples, you can share it well with audience

4. Have a good eye contact wit everyone.

5. Read well about the topic before the speech

Oil pricing exercise

This game was using Game theory.

2 teams of 8 people had to set price for oil
Alba
Bhatia
they sell oil to capital;options were $10,20,30 .

The profits earned by one depends on the price set by both.

There were some months in which double profit were there. There were moments where we could discuss the price of the oil to be set. The occasion was fashion show and olympics. There were unreliable sources, to help each country decide to set the price.

The game showed how things work at true competition. the market size is lowered due to distrust
Collusion is necessary.

We started selling at #10 because profits where more and was also safe. The conditions and simulations set by the Proffesor were good.
I learnt from this activity that we should not trust information from unrealized sources, not trust them to fix the price.
Always think about what other competitor thinks before setting your price.

My learning from HBO Class: Choices of Life

Recently there was a very interesting activity conducted by our HBO Mam.

We were asked to divide our heart into three parts and share our opinion on what would we think the three most important things in our life would be.

We were given 3 post-it and asked to express the same on these papers.

I picked up the following 3 important aspects of my life.

1. A happy married life and family.

2. Religious and Moral Values.

3. Satisfying job.

Very soon after we were asked to give away one post it,to the angel.

To interpret it,what would the first thing be that you would give up easily?.I had given away the 3'rd one.

Now we were left with only two best things of our lives.

Our HBO mam then informed us the Angel will come by again and forcefully take one out of these two.

This time the second thing taken is not by choice but by destiny.Does not this happen in real life?

We were asked to express from our heart as to how the feeling of disassociation with the two things would be. How does it feel?

This article gives you an insight of what you really want to do in life. It gives a meaning to life and its direction.

Besides this we had another activity where there was a division of class according to 5 questions,

what type of job? Life-work balance?

It showed us where we stand and what our priorities are.

The insight from the activity for me was the importance of being faithful and moral.

Don’t harm anyone and do wrong to anyone as God is seeing you from above.

Try to make the best of what you have and don’t crib for what you don’t.

My learning from HBO Class: 4 types of Generations

It was a unique type of class. We were divided into 4 groups and were given a role play for Coffee Shop,

We had to discuss about for types of generation in our work place

1. The Depression Generation Before 46
2. The baby bust generation 1965-1946
3. The Baby Boom generation1983- 1965
4. The Baby Boomlet generation 1983 Afterwards

I was a part of discussion of The Baby Boomlet generation.
There were 14 of us, Jade and John were the owners. Rest of us were tourists.

We discussed about strenghts and weakness of boomlet.
We also discussed how we will deal with other 3 generations.
Baby boomlet are not much loyal to work are more part-time job guys. They don't stick to one job,
Don't educate them
The Babybust generation was into cold war. They caused industrial revolutions. They had a great responsibility to transit between depression and now. They made lots of invention.

Babyboom  was responsible for technology outcome. They used to leave their off springs alone at home. Research on memory loss has indicated that the Baby Boom Generation has been confronted with increasing loss of memory due to the agitated life they lead, which requires that attention is put on many different things at a time. Since older generations were not faced with this rapid lifestyle, and newer generations have lived with this society all their lives, it is said that the Baby Boom Generation was the most damaged one in terms of memory loss due to age.
They didn't care about their next generation, they polluted environment and ate away all resources

Baby Boom let, it is the youngest generation. They don't believe in a permanent job. They are fast movers.
They don't respect elders and want to be independent.

We need to make a dialog with all the other three generations and tell the advantage and disadvantage to deal with them.

The importance of this activity was to know about all the four generation of workforce. As all of them are existing now. We should need to know how to deal with them.
